Welcome to CRS
CRS is a web-based application that processes courses. All courses at UIC are entered into CRS and then go through an approval process.
Here are some of the Major Features of the Course Request System. Please visit the other sections here for additional information.
- Users are able to access CRS via machines on the campus network or connected through the VPN (Virtual Private Network). To connect to the VPN, you must download and install free software accessible through the Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) at ttp://accc.uic.edu/service/vpn. Upon login they are able to determine the status of a course request (i.e., whether it is approved or pending at some level).
- A single course request is used to request a new course, General Education for a course, or cross-listing with another unit. An approved course request may be changed (including the addition/elimination of special credit or cross-listing status) or dropped. All course actions originate with the controlling unit.
- Pull-down menus and check boxes are used wherever possible to ease data entry. Basic rules of entry are enforced. Online help in the form of instructions, examples and policy information (where applicable) are available directly from the application. Users are able to copy and paste examples from the help screens available in the Course Request System into the requests they create.
- Users are able to print course requests using attached printers.
- Courses that are cross-listed are automatically routed to the non-controlling units (department[s] and college[s] or school[s], if applicable) for their review. This routing takes place before primary, controlling college review and approval. The addition of new cross-lists (on a new or changed course request), any change to a controlling course that is already cross-listed, or the dropping of a course that is cross-listed require approval by the non-controlling unit(s). The removal of a cross-list from an existing course requires sign-off by the non-controlling unit(s). The unit that controls the cross-list being removed will get a period of 14 days in which to submit a signoff response, and comment on the proposed request. Upon signoff by all non-controlling units OR after the 14-day “window” reserved for signoff has expired, whichever occurs first, the course proceeds to the sponsoring college for approval. The signoff action does not affect the approval of the course, but is informational to anyone who reviews it.
- Sponsoring units will have the opportunity to route a course for signoff to another unit on campus that may be affected by the course request for any reason. The unit identified to signoff on the course request will get a period of 14 days in which to submit a signoff response, and comment on the proposed request. Upon signoff by all non-controlling units OR after the 14-day “window” reserved for signoff has expired, whichever occurs first, the course proceeds to the sponsoring college for approval. The signoff action does not affect the approval of the course, but is informational to anyone who reviews it.
- Departments are able to authorize individuals to create, approve and/or signoff courses, or any combination of these.
