New Versus Revised Course Rules


The following guideline will be used to determine whether a revised course should, in fact, become a new course:

If a revision of a course is so significant that a student would be permitted by a department or college to take both the original course and the revised course and count them toward the degree, then the revised course ought to become a new course with a new number.

Rationale: Giving departments guidance about when to create a new course versus the revision of an existing will help the campus keep more consistent records and better historical tracking of courses which have been revised over time. Presently, there is no such statement in place.
